Blackout Construction

For blackout Roman shades, we make every effort to reduce light pinholes through the use of the French blackout method, a traditional approach that incorporates an internal layer of black cotton sateen between the lining and interlining.

This method helps minimize light infiltration at stitch points and is integrated into the construction of the shade. While modern plastic blackout liners are a more economical option, they do not reflect the same level of construction.

Roman Shades

Roman shades offer a tailored, architectural approach to window treatments—refined, structured, and highly dependent on proper fabrication.

At St. Hyacinth Custom Drapery, we fabricate custom Roman shades for interior designers in Dallas–Fort Worth using traditional methods. Each shade is fully lined and constructed to maintain clean, consistent folds.

Our work reflects a couture-level approach to Roman shade fabrication, with an emphasis on precision and hand-finished detail.

The English Method

Our Roman shades are fabricated using the English method, constructed in a manner similar to our drapery.

Each shade is carefully hand-finished, with both internal and external stitching executed in a way that leaves no visible stitches on the face, hems, or side turnings. Corners are mitered by hand—considered the most correct approach to Roman shade fabrication.

Each shade is fully interlined as a standard, with a 100% cotton sateen lining applied over the interlining. This construction provides the fullness and body required for clean, well-formed folds.

Whenever possible, we fold to pattern, which is considered the most correct approach when fabricating Roman shades. Pattern placement is considered throughout the fabrication process to ensure a consistent and properly presented result.

Operable Shades & Safety

We have extensive knowledge of Roman shade lift systems and specify the appropriate system for each application, with careful consideration given to both function and safety.

Different conditions require different solutions—a shade installed on a door, a high window over a counter, or a window that is difficult to reach all present unique considerations. We evaluate each condition to ensure the shade operates properly, can be used comfortably, and aligns with current cord safety standards and recommendations.
